We have officially have an editor! We hired Jovana Shirley at Unforseen Editing to edit Forbidden Blood! (And hopefully all subsequent novels.)  She was our first choice and, even though we have to wait until the end of April to get started, we are very, very excited . . . and relieved.
It’s not as easy to find a freelance editor as one would think. Anyone can claim they’re an editor, but whether or not they are good at their job is another story. And you want someone who is going to understand your writing and your genre.
As for Jovana, some of her clients include Tarryn Fisher, Nicole Jacquelyn, K.A. Linde, Gail McHugh, Nicole Reed, Madeline Sheehan, and Emily Snow. If you’ve read any of these authors, you know she does a great job and knows what she’s doing.
Another reason Jovana was at the top of our list was because we wanted to have someone who was . . . open-minded, shall we say. While we have not read all the authors listed above, we do know that some do not shy away from the sexual aspect of their characters’ relationships. We also have descriptive intimate scenes in our novel, and we wanted someone who would be receptive to them and our characters’ passionate sides.
In the course of our writing, we hired someone to critique the first three chapters of our book. It became apparent almost right away, once our manuscript was returned to us, that this person did not have a lot of experience with the romance genre and, more specifically, paranormal romance. (That story can be saved for another time) Regardless of how that went down, it was a good lesson in hiring someone who understands what you are writing and what you are trying to convey to your readers. Which is why we are very pleased in our selection.
